Epic Scenery, Off the Beaten Path, Wildlife Encounters Experience the ultimate luxury on a Rovos Rail journey from Cape Town to Dar es Salaam, traversing breathtaking landscapes and iconic sights across southern Africa.

Trip Overview :

This 17-day tailor-made journey is one of the world’s most luxurious and spectacular rail journeys.

Experience some of the most iconic highlights of southern Africa, between Cape Town and exotic Dar es Salaam. Rovos Rail has earned an international reputation for its truly world-class travel experiences. Step aboard the wood-panelled coaches and enjoy fine cuisine in five-star luxury as some of the most varied scenery imaginable unfolds beyond the windows.

Cape Town is considered one of the prettiest cities on the planet, sitting in the shadow of iconic Table Mountain. Visit Table Mountain National Park to gain an appreciation for this African landmark before sampling the city’s culinary scene that blends flavours of multiple continents

All aboard! Travel in style towards your first stop in Kimberly. Kimberley is famed for its diamond mining history. Your tour includes a visit to the Mine Museum and the famous ‘Big Hole’. Arrive in historic Matjiesfontein, where the museum on the platform offers you a fascinating insight into the legacy of rail travel in this region. Stop in Pretoria known as the "Jacaranda City" due to the thousands of Jacaranda trees that line the wide city streets, was founded in 1855 by Marthinus Wessels Pretorius, son of one of the original Voortrekkers, Andries Pretorius.

You then head to Madikwe Game Reserve. Enjoy two nights here, where morning and afternoon game drives give you plenty of chances to spot the Big 5, all of which inhabit the Reserve. Rejoin the train and cross the border into Botswana. Your stay in Botswana will be short as the train makes its way to Hwange Game Reserve in Zimbabwe on your way to spectacular  Victoria Falls.

A highlight of your journey will be Victoria Falls. At 1708 metres in width and 108 metres in height, this is the world’s largest sheet of falling water. Visit during the rainy season to see the spectacular ‘Smoke That Thunders’, or during the dry season for a more detailed – and less damp – view. Enjoy a sunset cruise down the majestic Zambezi River. A full day at leisure also allows you time to enjoy one of a host of activities such as white water rafting, abseiling and bungee jumping. For a more relaxed day, opt for an elegant high tea at your hotel or enjoy a breathtaking helicopter ride over the falls.

While in Zambia, stop off in Kasama for an afternoon excursion to Chisimba Falls. Weave your way through the ‘Real Africa’, with informative lectures to help you plan the next part of your adventure.  Pass through Selous Game Reserve, the largest in Africa where you’ll enjoy 4 hours of luxury travel, viewing wild animals on both sides of the route

Your final day ends in arrival in Dar es Salaam, The capital of Tanzania until 1973. It is still the country’s largest city and holds many fascinating attractions. Consider a visit to Makumbusho Village Museum, a collection of houses built in styles mirroring the various ethnic groups of Tanzania.
